How to Wash Your Graduation Caps and Gowns
You're probably under the impression that a graduation gown can be laundered in the same way that any other item of clothing can—by tossing it in the washer, adding some detergent, and starting the cycle. However, not everything is as it appears in this outfit. When you receive your graduation gown, it should be wrinkle-free and ready to wear. The only allowed method of cleaning shiny gowns is by hand. Next, whether you prefer matte or shiny graduation caps, these are low-maintenance. However, the mortarboard of your cap should not be exposed to moisture, so keep it in a dry place.
Dealing With Wrinkles
Please follow these instructions if your graduation cap and/or gown arrive wrinkled. Caps and gowns should be hung for at least a day on a clothes hanger to allow wrinkles to release. If time is of the essence, you can briefly steam them over low heat.
Important Accessories You Shouldn’t Forget
Finish the look with a graduation cap and tassel. If the robe fits properly, you can move on to the cap. Simply loop the tassel over the cap's button to accomplish this. Before you put on your cap, look inside to see if it says "front" anywhere. The underside of the cap should be flush against the floor when worn.
